Siu Lum Academy’s Unique Structured Learning

Warmup Qigong (Chi-kung) Exercises
We start every class with Qigong Exercises to open the body and mind to the flow of energy.

Basic Movements
Movements preface every stage of growth to develop physical strength, coordination and inner spirit. By working solely on the individual movement, the player slowly trains the body to perform the movement perfectly so it can be performed perfectly in quick movements.

Progressive Forms
Shaolin Southern Tiger-Crane Style Kung Fu, Yang Traditional Tai Chi forms, and Yin Fu Bagua increase in difficulty which allows players to experience and demonstrate increasing levels of inner strength, command, and understanding.

Martial Applications
Multiple applications for each movement are demonstrated so players may relate to the martial aspect or function of the movement.

Weapons
Weapons training accelerates the development of power, skill, and spirit for Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Bagua. Weapons used include, but not limited to, straight sword, broad sword, fan, wind-fire wheels, staff/cudgel, spear, sai, chain, deer horns.

Sparring and Push (Sensing) Hands
Contact trains players in the sensing and commanding of energy and develops an understanding how basic principles underlying the movements of Kung Fu, Bagua and Tai Chi can use the movement and energy to improve the performance of the art. This assists the player in developing an understanding of the application of the techniques in a more realistic setting.

Ability Tests
Periodic testing encourages intense practice, inter-player sharing, and theory-based feedback on the student’s performance of movements, forms, and the use of weapons. This reveals new levels of skill and understanding.
