What are Southern Chinese Martial Arts
In Southern China the ground is often softer and even muddier than that found in the North of China. Also, it was generally regarded that southern styles were developed with the notion of fighting in close quarters as southern China had historically had higher population concentration, particularly during the Qing dynasty. Therefore, the style developed in the South used this situation to their advantage by emphasizing strong, low stances and powerful hand/arm strikes.
The Southern style as taught at Siu Lum Academy focuses on strong, balanced stances with the use of arm and full body techniques. Though there are kicks and the like demonstrated, the greater emphasis on grounded centered stances while punching/striking the opponent.
