What is correct breathing in Tai Chi?

Tai Chi breathing is integral to the art of Tai Chi at Siu Lum Academy. Tai Chi breathing is a method of breathing that promotes over all well-being by creating a sense of calm, reducing stress and supporting both physical and mental health. The many benefits of Tai Chi breathing include:

Siu Lum Academy initially emphasizes deep belly breathing in Tai Chi which involves engaging the diaphragm and filling the lungs with air. Deep belly breathing has the student breath in deeply through the nose allowing the belly to expand while keeping the chest still. The air is then slowly exhaled through the mouth and the belly contracts.

The focus on breathing during Tai Chi movements and exercises is crucial to realizing the benefits of Tai Chi.
